Current Player Apps: OPEN
New Player Apps: OPEN

This game is invite-only. See more about this in the guidelines below.

Players can also RESERVE.

NOTE: The "request an invite from the mods" option will be allowed going forward. Any apps that come after game start will be processed quickly to allow players to join the starting mingle.

APP PROCESSING

Players may app at any time and this is first come, first serve.

Apps may only be closed occasionally due to large plots where it would be hard to intro.

GAME CAPS

Player Cap: 30 players
Characters Per Player: 4

CAST CAPS

Cast Cap: 10

Completely original OCs will count as a cast. OCs based on tabletop or MMO canons will count towards the MMO or tabletop canons. Big sprawling franchises count as one cast as far as caps are concerned, so Star Wars would be the only Star Wars cast. Anything Marvel would be contained under a Marvel cap, and that includes MCU, the comics, the animated shows, everything.

Versions of each character: 3

We allow three versions of the same character in game, such as an AU and the canon version, or three versions from three different incarnations of a canon (ex: comics Barry Allen, animated Barry Allen, and live action TV show Barry Allen).

NEW PLAYER APPS

Invite-Only: For new players, the game is currently invite-only. There is a space on the app to put which current player invited you. New invites can be extended to anyone a current player wants to extend them to, including people from [personal profile] enablemeplz or the "App This Please" thread on [community profile] rpanons.

Players who don't know anyone in the game can request an invite directly from the mods. Please note "Mod invite requested" in the invite section. If requesting a mod invite, it is required to give the mods your handle and plurk name, but you can provide it in the mod contact if you'd prefer to keep it private.

Former players of games run by the head mod, [community profile] longestnight, [community profile] thelegion, any iteration of [community profile] wilderlands, and [community profile] piper90 can note they were a former player in place of an invite. Please let the mods know the player name you used at that time.

New Player App Wait Queue: Any apps that come in after one of the caps is met will remain in a wait queue and will be processed when a player or cast slot is available.

A new player app in the wait queue counts as first come, first served. As long as a character is listed in the wait queue, current players and any other new players that come along cannot reserve or app that character. If a cast is close to being capped, a new player app in the wait queue also reserves a cast slot.

Reserves: A reserve also reserves cast or player slots. Reserves last 7 days.

CURRENT PLAYER APPS

Current Player Wait Queue: As long as cast and Character version caps aren't met, apps will be processed regularly. Any apps that come in after a cast cap or character version cap is met will remain in the queue and will only be processed when a slot is available.

Wait Queue Reserves: An app in the wait queue counts as first come, first serve. As long as a character is listed in the wait queue, current players and any other new players that come along cannot reserve or app that character. If a cast is capped, or the cap for Character Versions is met, an app in the wait queue also reserves the next slot available.

Reserves: A reserve also reserves cast, character version, or player slots. Reserves last 7 days.

CHARACTER TERMS

Not sure what to put in the "Canon, AU, CRAU, Canon OC, or OC?" section on the app below? the Here is an explanation of character terms to choose from on the app.

Canon: This is a fandom/canon character pulled directly from the piece of media they're in. If someone were to play Spider-Man directly from the comics he would be a canon character from the canon universe he exists in.

AU: Alternate universe. This is a fandom/canon character with an altered personal history, introducing changes that effect who the character is. If you were to play a version of Superman who never met Lois Lane and it wasn't a take from any of the comics, that would be an alternate universe version of Superman. This is not an alternate version of the character from existing media. So Superman from the comics and Superman from the live-action movies both count as Canon, not AU.

Canon OC: An original character based on a pre-existing piece of media. This can be a tabletop character based on a tabletop game system. It can also be an OC from a pre-existing piece of media, like a completely original Pokemon trainer from Pokemon.

OC: An original character. This is a completely original character that comes from a completely original world, rather than using another canon as their point of origin.

CRAU: This term is one that attaches to the other character types rather than standing alone. A CRAU is a version of any type of character that was previously in another RP, and is carrying over their memories of the old game. They are able to remember their CR (Character relationships) from the old game but must follow this game's rules about the character mentioning it. They are altered from their original form. Usually these characters started as their initial character type and then changed by gaining experience from the past RP.

CRAU overlaps with the other character types, because every type of character can potentially be brought over from another RP. In that case, the player should list the initial character type and that they are also CRAU. For instance, if I were to bring Scooby Doo from another RP with his memories of that game, I would list him as Canon/CRAU. If I brought an OC from a past game, I would list OC/CRAU. If a character started as an AU in a past game, I'd list a character as AU/CRAU.

CRAUs can only have history from up to 1 past game, no more than that.

SITUATIONAL APP CLOSURES

Both new player and current player apps may close on occasion due to RL holidays, mods going on vacation, and other mitigating circumstances. They may also be closed sometimes during particularly complicated gamewide plots that would create difficulties for people introing characters. These closures will be temporary.

APP RULES

Before Apping, please visit both the PLAYABLE CHARACTERS and POWERS pages to make sure your character is appable and to figure out their powers.

You may app as many characters at a time that you want to play, as long as they don't exceed your 4 character slots.

If you only have one character and you're swapping them out for another, please note on your app and your drop post that you're swapping out so we don't think you're giving up your player slot.

If you app for multiple characters from the same canon they must not have a lot of direct involvement (ie they can't be close siblings or SOs or anything like that).

Apps are judged for that character as first come, first served.

Apps are not screened at this game.

App samples don't have an age limit. They don't have to be from within a certain number of years. Use any app samples from any time in the past.

Please post your app as all comments instead of as a link to a post. Multiple comments are fine.

In the subject of your app comment, please put "NEW PLAYER APP" or "CURRENT PLAYER APP" before the character's name and canon.

EXAMPLE:
NEW PLAYER APP | Bugs Bunny | Space Jam

CHARACTER SUMMARY

This game requires no personality and no history, just a character summary like you might give in a profile, to give a sense of the character. This can even be under 100 words if it's descriptive enough.

Example: Superman is an alien who was sent to Earth by his parents as a baby to survive their dying planet. His spaceship was found by a farm couple in Kansas, who raised him to be kind, honest, brave, and compassionate. He works as a journalist in his secret identity, targeting the corrupt. Granted powers by the light of Earth's sun, he fights villains and other threats as a superhero to protect people, standing for truth and justice.

He feels a weight on his shoulders when it comes to Earth's protection, feeling responsible to the world and sometimes struggling internally with how to deal with the evil he grapples with. Other superheroes regard him as a team player and an example to follow. To the public, he's a symbol of a hope; people know that calling out the name "Superman" means he'll try to reach them when they need him most.

SUITABILITY

The game has a sci fi/horror setting, with lots of potentially intense survival horror. While there will be plots that are more sci fi than horror, and plots on missions that are neither sci fi or horror, allowing for respites from traumatizing things, characters need to be able to handle the stress of the setting.

Keep in mind that if a character is not suited to a stressful horror and action setting, or if a character is aged 12-15, you will have to work extra hard to justify how they can function in the game as an equal (or learn how to quickly). Please answer all of the following.

⌲ How do you expect your character to respond to the stress, unfamiliarity, and horror of the setting?

(Answer here.)

⌲ What do you hope to do with your character long-term?

(Answer here.)

⌲ If you're giving your character NERFs, how will they deal with the implants?

(Answer here.)

⌲ Does your character currently have the mentality and skills that would allow them to adapt and survive? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn quickly?

(Answer here.)

⌲ Are they used to cooperating with others? If they're not, will they be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?

(Answer here.)

⌲ If your character is aged 12-15, do they have skills, resilience, and experience from their canon setting that would allow them to survive without too much reliance on others? Can they realistically keep up with the adults?

(N/A if it doesn't apply.)

⌲ Given this is a gritty sci-fi setting where killing is common in the genre, and there are OOC communication, permissions, and opt-out options to avoid it happening in a thread with your character, do you feel your character would be unplayable if others in the group killed sentient enemies, even if your character isn't present for it?

(Answer here.)

POWER SELECTION

Please pick either a combination of (1) primary and (1) secondary NERF, (1) primary NERF or (1) secondary NERF if only going for one, (2) secondary NERFs, or No Powers.

ABILITIES

Please list any abilities independent of any meta-powers or magic here. Martial arts, wilderness survival, diplomacy skills, etc. The mods just want to know this for plot-running in the future.

WRITING SAMPLES

Please link a thread from any source, whether a past game thread, a tdm thread, or even a meme thread, as long you were not playing a heavily altered version of the character. This sample must demonstrate character voice and have at least enough writing to judge your spelling and grammar. (So memes like tfln may possibly not qualify if posts are too brief.) If one sample would only partially work, you may list multiple samples. Samples that provide a blend of dialogue and prose or actionspam would be most preferred.

If you have no samples, you can write one but base it on anything, like the character's reaction to being dumped out of their medical tank upon intro, or a sample of a first open log or network post.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Personal Belonging: Propose the (1) personal belonging that Ishtar allows for the character to keep on hand for sentimental reasons, for mod approval. Weapons are not allowed. Clothing must only be 1 article of clothing.

Extras: Any extra info, requests, or concerns, you think it's important to include. For instance, you can use this space to ask the mods if certain animal companions can be brought into the game with the character.

WAIT TIME

Please give the mods 5 days to respond.

For new player apps that are submitted after the cut off for the player cap to be filled, we cannot give estimates on how long it will take to get into the game, as this depends on any natural drops that happen. However, when a player slot opens, we will ask the player if they're still interested in the game and process the app.

For new players, we consider a new player slot reserved by an app until the entire review process is over, so if we ask for revisions, your slot is still reserved until the mods make their final judgement of the app. However, if we ask for revisions, you will have 2 days to respond. After that, you'll forfeit the player slot reserved by your app and we'll move on to the next app.

CHARACTER SUMMARY

In a world where the negative emotions of humanity can converge and manifest as horrifying monsters, a secret organization of jujutsu sorcerers fight back from the shadows. Although they have their own drama and some of the traditions of their culture are inherently toxic, the attrition rate is brutal and it's said you have to be at least a little bit crazy to last in the job for long, they're the only thing keeping the human race from becoming monster food.

Megumi Fushiguro is one of these sorcerers, a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Although he's reputed to be a prodigy with excellent potential, his own willingness to lay down his life for the greater good is something of a liability in a job where a certain degree of ruthless self-preservation is necessary to prevail. He's a bit too serious for his own good and more than a little antisocial, but he's fiercely protective of his classmates (idiots though they can be) and has a strong moral compass. Megumi knows he's no hero, but he'll do whatever it takes to protect the people he chooses to protect, even if that means his life.

...especially if it means his life. He's still working on that.

SUITABILITY

⌲ How do you expect your character to respond to the stress, unfamiliarity, and horror of the setting?

Just another day, really. JJK's setting is pretty brutal for a battle shounen; body horror and nasty moral choices are part of the daily reality, and Megumi has seen more than a few talented sorcerers wash out because they couldn't handle the mental and emotional stress. He actually is at his best when there are other people around, because he's accustomed to being the thinker of his team and their reactions help him keep on track and focus on how they're going to tackle what's in front of them.

⌲ What do you hope to do with your character long-term?

So he has this bad habit of invoking his tactical nuke of a technique when his back is against the wall, and going for the "if I die I'm taking you with me" strategy. That isn't an option here, and he has just been given a wake-up call about his overreliance on it at his canon point, so I want to have him actively work on, as his teacher put it, being "greedier" and fighting like he wants to live, instead of assuming his death will be enough to make things better.

⌲ If you're giving your character NERFs, how will they deal with the implants?

He is nnnnot going to like this, for sure. Techno-organic sci-fi implants are completely out of his comfort zone, and he'd have an easier time wrapping his mind around something more magical in nature. That said, he's got enough sense to recognize that beggars can't be choosers, and he's going to have to learn to make use of it.

⌲ Does your character currently have the mentality and skills that would allow them to adapt and survive? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn quickly?

He absolutely has it in him. His habit of bringing a nuke to a gunfight aside, he is good at thinking on his feet, figuring out what's going on, and formulating plans. It's mostly just that self-sacrificial streak that gets in the way, and he's going to be actively working on that.

⌲If they're not used to cooperating with others, will they be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?

Despite the fact that he's by all appearances the Sasuke™ of his canon, he is actually a great team player. (Too good of one, if anything, as Gojo has pointed out.) He works well even with the characters he doesn't seem to care for much.

⌲ If your character is aged 12-15, do they have skills, resilience, and experience from their canon setting that would allow them to survive without too much reliance on others? Can they realistically keep up with the adults?

JJK is a pretty brutal setting. He's no stranger to life or death situations, tough choices, and things that would make the average person run screaming. He's got this.

Murky moral situations are a big theme in his canon! Depending on the reasoning behind it, things could become hella awkward, or not, but I don't think he'd be unplayable in any case. He and Yuji have some disagreements about the value of a life early on, and then later Megumi observes that they're both probably wrong, and maybe there really isn't a single good answer. He's the type to follow his own conscience, but he's learned not to be overly judgmental of whether someone else's conscience aligns with his.

POWER SELECTION

Primary: blade ARC
Secondary: psionic ARC

ABILITIES

He's a good student who reads a lot of non-fiction and has a good base of knowledge available in modern day Japan. And more esoterically, he's also a font of knowledge on the magical systems that exist in his setting, from the mechanics of jujutsu and being able to recognize and infodump on specialized techniques to knowledge about the society that sorcerers have built up behind the scenes, and the big names and politics therein. (He is actually from one of the big three families, the Zen'in. Zen'in family drama is intense, but they're not all trying to kill him. Yet.)

In a general sense, he's got a good head on his shoulders and is good at analying situations and applying his knowledge under pressure; he frequently is the character who figures out what's going on, puts the clues together to determine what the enemy's powers are doing and how to counter it, and the like.

He's physically fit and has trained with a bunch of different weapons, as well as in hand-to-hand combat.

WRITING SAMPLES

(I don't have threads yet, so here is his reaction to the arrival post!)

[ Darkness, as far as Megumi is concerned, is not alarming.

The shadows, the chill, the dark shape looming -- all of that feels like something he's glimpsed before but hasn't quite reached, the darkness he tapped into when he made his first clumsy, incomplete attempt at a domain expansion technique. Something he'll understand someday, but for now, a level of power just beyond his grasp.

It's not until he's freshly dumped from a tank and sprawled on the floor in a pile of green slime that it occurs to him that this is probably not the same kind of darkness he reaches for when he uses the Ten Shadows. ]

What the hell?!

[ The screens light up, the image of a woman (sort of?) appears and starts talking, and he immediately fumbles to grab the only thing in reach, a sheet unceremoniously heaped on a bench, and whips it over himself. ]

What --

[ She starts over. ]

Where did --

[ She starts over.

The third time is the charm, because he's never had a problem with pattern recognition. He's not getting anything out of this, at least not until he shuts up and lets her finish, and somewhere in the back of his mind he's very glad that his classmates aren't here, or he's pretty sure he'd never be getting to the end of the lecture and leaving this room.

It's alarming, though. He's not prone to displays of panic, but all this talk of nanites, the weird feeling of something clinging to his spine -- it feels like he's landed in one of those movies Itadori likes, something far outside the normal order of his world. He tries to remember as much of what he's hearing as possible, even if he's going to need to sit with it for a bit to really comprehend it. Maybe he should interrupt, just to get her to run through it all again so he can reinforce what he's heard --

-- and that's clearly not happening, because she finishes, and the floor drops and sends him sliding into -- somewhere.

That's fine. Nue can catch him, if it's going to drop him into any kind of opening, and he instinctively raises his hands to call the shikigami forth -- ]

Nue!

[ Nothing happens. He lands in a crumpled heap in an unfamiliar hallway. No big pit, so it wasn't actually necessary, but... ]

Nue?

[ Something is off about this place. It's not like he's completely blocked; he can sense the normal flow of cursed energy, but it's as if it keeps slipping back every time he tries to touch it. ]

You've got to be kidding me.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Personal Belonging: Just one of the buttons from his Jujutsu High uniform. They're distinctive, with a funky little swirly design that people in the know recognize as a sign that he's a jujutsu sorcerer.

Extras: His canon powers are based in magic, so if the stars and the plots align I would like for him to be able to summon up some of his critters if it works well for a plot. (He can do dogs and bunnies, among other things. I totally want to bust out the therapy animals after the squad has a particularly awful experience, at some point.)
