CHARACTER SUMMARY
Therion is a thief, and a good one. The whisper network in Orsterra speaks highly of him, but most know him only by reputation, not by face, and that's exactly how he prefers it; having grown up an orphan on the streets and having been betrayed and nearly murdered by his partner and best friend when he was a teenager has left him with serious trust issues and a reluctance to put his faith in anything beyond his own skills.
However, the cold front he habitually puts on has been wearing down, thanks to some involuntary adventures with a ragtag band of JRPG heroes. He's still sarcastic, reluctant to discuss his feelings, and always has one eye on the door, but he's admitted to himself that sometimes taking the risk of being hurt again is worth the connections with other people, and he's not particularly proud of how he's turned out...though that's not enough to turn him away from his life of larceny, mind.
SUITABILITY
⌲ How do you expect your character to respond to the stress, unfamiliarity, and horror of the setting?
He's practical enough to put his feelings in lockdown and put survival first. Therion is pretty experienced at compartmentalizing when faced with mortal peril and nasty things, even if his canon doesn't work up to quite this level of horror.
⌲ What do you hope to do with your character long-term?
He was just starting to warm up to the idea of opening up a little bit and letting some people in the front door, and now he's got to start over with a new crowd, but I want him to not just accept the idea of trusting people, but actually start doing it again.
⌲ If you're giving your character NERFs, how will they deal with the implants?
Mild disgust loses to cold utilitarianism every time. He certainly doesn't like the idea, but he won't have too much trouble swallowing that and using them when he's in a bind.
⌲ Does your character currently have the mentality and skills that would allow them to adapt and survive? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn quickly?
Avoid threats and live to fight another day is his primary MO! He's great at sneaking, okay at fighting, and well aware of his own limitations, so this won't be a problem.
⌲If they're not used to cooperating with others, will they be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?
At his canon point, he's accepted the idea of needing other people, even if he's terribly out of practice with it, so he should be able to get used to it as time goes on.
⌲ If your character is aged 12-15, do they have skills, resilience, and experience from their canon setting that would allow them to survive without too much reliance on others? Can they realistically keep up with the adults?
n/a
⌲ Given this is a gritty sci-fi setting where killing is common in the genre, and there are OOC communication, permissions, and opt-out options to avoid it happening in a thread with your character, do you feel your character would be unplayable if others in the group killed sentient enemies, even if your character isn't present for it?
Nah. He is easily one of the darkest members of his canon party, in terms of what he's willing to accept to get by. He'd rather avoid the situation if he can, but if you gotta shank a dude, you gotta shank a dude, and he's not going to begrudge anyone else what they do to survive.
POWER SELECTION
Two secondaries: stealth and psionic.
ABILITIES
He's an excellent sneak and pickpocket, good at lying low and eavesdropping, and has been mentioned to be a decent actor (a number of his heists begin with disguise and bluffing his way in, rather than breaking and entering). He's a decent fighter, not the top tier of physical combatants in his canon, but running second to the ones who are; his preferred weapons are knives, but he's also proficient with a sword, and since OT has a job system he can be set up with other weapons with little trouble. His combat style is very much the fast and evasive sort.
Personal Belonging: The Fool's Bangle. It's basically half a manacle with a single chain link hanging from it, and it's covered in runes and spelled to be impossible to remove without the key. In Orsterra, it's considered a mark of shame among thieves, a sign that you got caught; Therion's plot begins with an older, more experienced ex-thief pulling one over on him and slapping him with it, then using that as leverage to get him to help House Ravus recover some lost artifacts. In short, it is embarrassing as hell.
